Housing
Holy Family Children's Home was completed in December 2009 to share the love of Christ
with the orphaned and abandoned children of Rudrasamudram. The Children's Home
accommodates up to 50 needy children who are supervised by a husband and wife team who
oversee the cooking, cleaning and maintenance of the facility. Father Kumar and his
catechists provide spiritual direction and classroom education.
The land surrounding the Children's Home and the adjoining church buildings is enclosed by a brick wall to provide the children security and to protect the property, children's garden and animal pens from wandering water buffalo and the neighbors. Besides schooling, the children are assigned simple daily chores, learn to care for the rabbits and poultry, and raise vegetables.
Play is a vital part of the children's stay at the Children's Home. The laughter and joy these games bring are a big change from the seriousness of their lives as their families struggle to survive in this extremely poor, rural region.
In 2011, the children from the Home and several of the outreach mission stations, were treated to their first Children's Camp and Vacation Bible School. They played games, learned team building skills and had prayer and worship sessions. These events were so successful; plans are already underway to offer them again.
