Primary education is sacrificed so that the children can babysit the younger ones, graze the livestock, or seek employment along with their parents. In the absence of their parents, the children do not go to school and develop lifelong bad habits. The children that do have a home, often don't have enough money to pay the public school fees.

As one of his first projects after being assigned to Rudrasamudram Parish, Fr. Kumar built the Holy Family Children's Home to care for some of these children. These children receive good food and clothing as well as instruction in manners, basic hygiene and other school teachings. Fr. Kumar frequently offers evening tutoring and regularly encourages the children to study hard. When he has funds, he helps pay their school exam fees so they can stay in school.
